“MTC to Bring Back Double-Decker Electric Buses”

After successfully introducing electric buses in the city with the help of a private operator, the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) is planning to bring back the city’s iconic double-decker buses. This decision comes as part of the Corporation’s ongoing efforts to modernize public transport and make commuting more comfortable for passengers.

Double-decker and vestibule bus services were a common sight in the city nearly two decades ago, but MTC stopped running them due to high maintenance costs and operational challenges. Now, after years of planning, the Corporation is moving to reintroduce these buses in a modern, eco-friendly form.

MTC has called for tenders to purchase 20 new double-decker buses. These buses will be fully electric and equipped with air-conditioning, making them both environmentally friendly and more comfortable for passengers. Officials said the Corporation aims to make the buses operational by March this year.

The new buses are expected to serve busy city routes and attract commuters who prefer a smooth, comfortable ride. With two levels, the buses will also offer passengers a scenic view from the top deck, which many city residents are likely to enjoy.

MTC officials added that this move is part of a larger plan to expand the city’s electric bus fleet, reduce pollution, and improve overall public transport services. The return of the double-decker buses is expected to be welcomed by daily commuters and tourists alike.
