Chennai: Some staff members of the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) were seen taking part in political campaigns in areas like Anna Nagar and KK Nagar.
According to election rules, government employees, including transport staff, are not allowed to participate in political activities or show support for any political party or candidate. This rule is part of the Model Code of Conduct.
Sources from MTC said that some employees regularly meet candidates and openly show their support. In one case, an employee was even seen taking part in a campaign while wearing the official uniform, which is a clear violation of the rules.
When asked about the issue, Joint Managing Director Sundara Pandiyan said that no official complaints have been received so far. He added that the matter will be looked into if any complaint is filed.
Officials may take action if the allegations are proven, as such behavior is not allowed under election guidelines.
