The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Shivraj Motegaonkar, who runs Renukai Chemistry Classes in Latur, Maharashtra. He is accused of being part of a group that leaked the NEET UG exam paper. The leak affected the medical entrance exam held on May 3, which was later canceled.
During searches on May 17, a leaked question paper for the NEET UG exam was found on Motegaonkar’s phone. He is alleged to have received the paper and its answers before the exam date of April 23. Motegaonkar is said to have shared the leaked paper with others.
The CBI has been investigating the case since May 16, camping in Latus for four days. They have filed a formal complaint (FIR) and are probing how the leak happened. The NEET UG exam was conducted in 551 cities in India and 14 overseas centers, with nearly 23 lakh candidates appearing.
The National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducts the exam, received reports of irregularities on May 7, four days after the test. They shared the information with central agencies for verification.
Other arrests have been made too. On May 16, Manisha Mandhare, a biology lecturer from Pune and part of NTA’s paper-setting team, was arrested in Delhi. The CBI continues to investigate those involved in the leak.
