New T Nagar Health Centre to Open Soon

Residents of T Nagar will soon get easier access to basic medical care.
A new Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC) will soon open on Radhakrishnan
Street near Natesan Park. The centre was built at a cost of ₹2.4 crore and
will be opened in December.

According to the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC), this new UPHC replaces
the old, damaged building that was demolished in August last year.
The reconstruction was funded with ₹1.2 crore from the National Urban Health
Mission (NUHM) and another ₹1.2 crore from the MP funds of South Chennai MP
Thamizhachi Thangapandian. The new centre has a built-up area of 2,700 sq.
m across two floors.

Corporation officials said the health centre has been designed to work like a
small hospital. It will have rooms for a medical officer, lab technician,
pharmacist, and an emergency treatment room with one emergency bed. There
will also be a separate consultation room for TB patients, a head nurse’s
room, a waiting area, a lift, and other basic facilities.

Until now, people living on Sivagnanam Street, Burkit Road, G.N. Chetty Road,
Venkatnarayana Road, and nearby areas had to travel about 4.4 km to the Vadapalani
Urban Community Health Centre or the West Mambalam UPHC for simple services like
blood tests, medical consultations, or basic treatment. The new centre will help
residents get faster and easier access to healthcare closer to home.
