Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will attend the swearing-in ceremony of Tarique Rahman, chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), as the new Prime Minister of Bangladesh in Dhaka today. India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri will also be present at the event.
The BNP-led alliance won a clear and decisive victory in the recent parliamentary elections, securing a landslide majority.
The Ministry of External Affairs said that Mr. Birla’s presence at the ceremony highlights the strong and long-standing friendship between the people of India and Bangladesh. It also reflects India’s support for democratic values that both nations share.
The ministry welcomed Bangladesh’s peaceful transition to an elected government under Tarique Rahman’s leadership and expressed hope for continued cooperation and friendly ties between the two countries.
