Overnight Drone Strikes Kill Two in Ukraine’s Odesa

Two people were killed and two others injured when drones struck the Ukrainian city of Odesa overnight. The attack happened before a proposed Russian ceasefire for Orthodox Easter. Drones targeted a residential area, damaging apartment buildings, houses, and a kindergarten.

The Ukrainian Air Force reported that Russia launched 160 drones, with 133 being shot down or intercepted. This came just hours before the ceasefire was set to begin. Meanwhile, the Russian Defence Ministry claimed that 99 Ukrainian drones were shot down across Russia and Crimea overnight.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a 32-hour ceasefire for the Orthodox Easter weekend, ordering forces to stop fighting from Saturday evening until Sunday’s end. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine is ready to match any ceasefire steps. He had previously suggested pausing attacks on energy infrastructure during Easter.

Ceasefire attempts in the conflict have seen limited success, with both sides accusing each other of violations.
