Pappu Yadav Held Over Long-Pending Court Case

Six-time Member of Parliament Rajesh Ranjan, popularly known as Pappu Yadav, was arrested late on Friday night (February 6, 2026) in connection with a 31-year-old case. The arrest was made because he had reportedly missed several court hearings related to the case over the years.

Yadav, who won the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Purnea constituency as an Independent candidate, was taken into custody for repeatedly failing to appear before the court despite summons.

Recently, he has been in the news for leading protests demanding justice in the alleged rape and death of a young medical aspirant. The girl, who was staying in a hostel in Patna and belonged to the neighbouring Jehanabad district, died under suspicious circumstances.

The incident has caused widespread anger and protests across Bihar, with many people demanding a fair and thorough investigation.

In response to the public outcry, the state government has transferred the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for further inquiry.

Authorities have not yet said how long Yadav will remain in custody, but the arrest has drawn political attention due to his active involvement in recent protests.
