Pat Cummins Out of Second Ashes Test

Australia captain Pat Cummins has been ruled out of the second Ashes Test, but the team has kept the same 14-player squad for the day-night match in Brisbane.

In Cummins’ absence, stand-in captain Steve Smith led Australia to an eight-wicket win in the first Test, giving them a 1–0 lead in the five-match series.

The second Test will start on December 4.

Cummins will still travel to Brisbane to continue his recovery and is expected to return for the third Test in Adelaide on December 17. He was seen training hard at the SCG on Friday, bowling to Steve Smith.

With Cummins out, Brendan Doggett — who took five wickets in Perth — is likely to join Mitchell Starc and Scott Boland in the pace attack.

Opener Usman Khawaja, who had back spasms in the first Test, remains in the squad but must prove he is fit before the match.

If Khawaja cannot play, Beau Webster or Josh Inglis may replace him.

Australia squad for second Test:
Steve Smith (c), Scott Boland, Alex Carey, Brendan Doggett, Cameron Green, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Michael Neser, Mitchell Starc, Jake Weatherald, Beau Webster.
