Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan has advised the Indian team to focus on winning matches instead of worrying about net run rate in the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
Pathan, who was part of India’s World T20-winning squad, said that the team should concentrate on playing positive cricket in their upcoming matches rather than thinking too much about net run rate calculations. His comments come ahead of India’s important clash against Zimbabwe national cricket team.
He explained that winning games should be the main goal, as victories automatically improve the team’s position in the points table. According to Pathan, focusing too much on net run rate can create unnecessary pressure on players.
Pathan also shared his thoughts on the team combination. He suggested that captain Suryakumar Yadav could consider batting at number three. He believes this move could bring better balance to the top order, which currently has several left-handed batters. Having a right-hander like Suryakumar at number three could help the team handle different match situations more effectively.
He added that flexibility in the batting order is important in T20 cricket, where the game can change quickly. Pathan said that experienced players should be ready to adapt for the benefit of the team.
India will be looking to perform strongly in the upcoming matches to secure their place in the next stage of the tournament.
