Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday, January 23, 2026, officially launched the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) campaign for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections from Madurantakam. The event drew a large crowd of supporters and party leaders, highlighting the NDA’s strong presence in the region.
During his address, Modi focused on criticizing the ruling DMK party, saying that its time in power was ending soon. He promised voters that a “double-engine NDA government”—with NDA at both the state and central level—would bring development, progress, and good governance to Tamil Nadu.
The Prime Minister also accused the DMK of betraying public trust and being involved in corruption, alleging that the party had failed to deliver on promises made to the people. He highlighted key issues such as unfulfilled development projects, alleged misuse of funds, and poor governance, saying that a change was necessary for the state’s growth.
Modi’s speech also emphasized the NDA’s development agenda, including initiatives for infrastructure, education, employment, and welfare schemes, promising that a new NDA government would focus on the welfare of all citizens.
The Madurantakam rally is seen as an important step in the NDA’s election strategy, aiming to mobilize support in key constituencies ahead of the high-stakes assembly polls in Tamil Nadu.
