PMK Symbol Dispute Reaches Madras High Court

The Madras High Court on Monday asked the Election Commission of India (ECI) to reply to a petition filed by Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) founder S. Ramadoss. He has challenged the Election Commission’s decision to allot the party’s traditional “mango” symbol to the faction led by Anbumani Ramadoss.

S. Ramadoss argued that the symbol is closely linked to the original party and should not be given to one faction without proper consideration. He said the decision could affect the party’s identity and confuse voters.

After hearing the petition, the first bench of Chief Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava and Justice G. Arul Murugan admitted the case. The court then directed the Election Commission to file its response within three weeks.

The matter is expected to come up for further hearing after the Election Commission submits its reply.
