Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Monday told officials to complete the
Poonamallee–Vadapalani section of the Phase II Metro Rail project by
February. He was reviewing the progress of 27 government projects that
are listed as “iconic projects.”
According to a press release, the number of iconic projects has gone up
from 155 to 288 across 24 government departments. These projects together
cost ₹3,17,693 crore. So far, 85 projects have been finished and opened for
public use, while the remaining ones are still in progress.
During a review meeting with secretaries from six departments, Stalin reviewed
27 projects worth ₹87,941 crore. He instructed officials to ensure these projects
are completed by January 2026.
The projects reviewed included drinking water supply schemes in Sivaganga, Madurai,
Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Ramanathapuram, Dindigul, Virudhunagar and Thoothukudi
districts, and development work at Vandiyur Lake in Madurai.
He also reviewed the construction work of the Kuthambakkam and Chengalpattu bus
stands under the Housing and Urban Development Department. In addition,
he checked the progress of a skywalk being built near the Kilambakkam bus
terminus to help people cross the highway safely.
