President Droupadi Murmu will address the Odisha Legislative Assembly tomorrow, on the first day of the winter session. This is a historic moment because it will be the first time a President of India speaks in the Odisha Assembly. It is also special for President Murmu, as this is where she began her political career as an MLA.
She will speak to the Assembly members at 4 p.m. and will also visit Room Number 11, the office she used when she was a legislator. The room has been renovated for her visit.
President Murmu was elected as an MLA from Rairangpur in 2000 and 2004. During her time in the BJD-BJP government, she served as Minister of State for Commerce and Transport, and later as Minister of Fisheries and Animal Resources Development.
Security has been increased across Bhubaneswar and around the Assembly building to ensure her safety during the visit.
