Prime Minister Modi Honors Mahatma Gandhi on Birth Anniversary

On Friday, October 2, 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid his respects to Mahatma Gandhi on the anniversary of his birth. He reflected on how Gandhi’s teachings continue to inspire a better society and a more developed India.

Modi praised Gandhi for his life dedicated to truth, non-violence, kindness, and service. He emphasized that these values remain relevant across all times and places.

In a post on X, Modi wrote, “May Bapu’s [Gandhi’s nickname] timeless message guide us toward a better society and a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (prosperous India).”

Through a video message, the Prime Minister highlighted the importance of Gandhi’s birthday for the nation. He noted how Gandhi’s ideas have influenced people worldwide, even though he held no power.

Modi also spoke about Gandhi’s emphasis on “Swadeshi,” or supporting local industries, with Khadi being a key example. He urged everyone to buy at least one Khadi product on October 2 and take pride in it as a symbol of Swadeshi.

Mahatma Gandhi was born on October 2, 1869, in Porbandar and assassinated on January 30, 1948, in Delhi. His legacy continues to inspire millions around the world.
