Former India cricketer Cheteshwar Pujara strongly disagreed with India head
coach Gautam Gambhir’s comments about the team’s loss in the first Test against
South Africa. The match ended in just three days at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
The Indian batters struggled badly on the turning pitch, especially against South
African spinner Simon Harmer, who took eight wickets in the match.
India scored only 189 runs in their first innings and were bowled out for
just 93 in the second innings. Shubman Gill did not bat in both innings
because he was ruled out with a neck injury.
After the match, Gambhir defended the pitch. He said, “This is exactly the
innings on this surface was possible.
