In badminton, star player PV Sindhu has reached the women’s singles quarterfinals of the Malaysia Open in Kuala Lumpur with an impressive performance. She defeated Japan’s eighth-seeded Tomoko Miyazaki comfortably, winning the match 21-8, 21-13 in the Round of 16.
Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medalist, looked confident and in control throughout the match. She will now face third-seeded Akane Yamaguchi of Japan in the quarterfinals tomorrow, in what is expected to be a tough contest.
In men’s doubles, India’s top pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty also moved into the quarterfinals. They registered a straight-game victory, beating Malaysia’s world number 17 duo Junaidi Arif and Roy King Yap 21-18, 21-11.
However, it was a disappointing day for Indian players in men’s singles. Lakshya Sen and Ayush Shetty were knocked out of the tournament after losing their respective pre-quarterfinal matches.
