Veteran Tamil actress Udayachandrika, popularly known as Radha, has filed a police complaint against her sister and former actress Ambika Nair and their brother, Mallikarjuna Kunjan Nair, also known as Arjun Nair. Radha has alleged that the siblings attempted to misuse old cheques belonging to her in a transaction involving nearly ₹50 crore.
According to reports, Radha submitted a detailed complaint to the Greater Chennai Police Commissioner. She said she received an alert from IDBI Bank’s Porur branch on September 17 informing her that five high-value cheques had been presented for payment in Ambika’s name.
The five cheques were for ₹11 lakh, ₹13.17 crore, ₹27.73 crore, ₹7 crore and ₹1.79 crore. Together, the amounts came to nearly ₹50 crore. Radha said she immediately asked the bank to stop the payments, maintaining that there was no financial transaction or legally enforceable debt between her and Ambika.
Radha has alleged that the cheques were taken from her room and that the details written on them were in her brother Mallikarjuna’s handwriting. She has accused her siblings of attempting to use the old cheques for their financial benefit.
The cheques reportedly belonged to an older cheque book issued in 2022 for Radha’s business, which was then operating under the name ARS Garden Studio. After the business was renamed RR Gardens in January 2025 and a new cheque book was obtained, Radha said she considered the old cheques no longer valid and had kept them aside.
Radha also alleged that she had kept a few signed blank cheques at home because she frequently travelled for work and needed them for routine expenses such as employee salaries, maintenance and other payments. She said Ambika lived in the same house and had been allowed access to her portion of the property.
The complaint also refers to allegations concerning her brother’s financial matters under the Foreign Exchange Management Act, 1999. These are allegations made by Radha and are not established findings against him in this complaint.
Radha has asked the police to investigate the alleged misuse of her cheques and take appropriate action under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. She has also raised concerns about access to valuables and property documents kept in the same room.
The allegations are now subject to investigation. No finding of guilt against Ambika or Mallikarjuna has been established by a court in connection with the allegations described in the complaint. The case has attracted attention because of the identities of the people involved and the large amount mentioned in the alleged cheque transactions.
