Rahul Says Opposition Will Defeat Electoral Map Changes

Rahul Gandhi spoke on Friday (April 17, 2026) and strongly criticized a proposed constitutional amendment Bill in India. He said the Bill is a “panic reaction” from the government and questioned its real purpose.

Rahul Gandhi said the Bill is not mainly about women’s reservation, as it is being presented. Instead, he claimed it is aimed at changing the country’s electoral boundaries in a way that could reduce the influence of southern India, the northeastern states of India, and smaller states.

He warned that such changes could harm the balance of representation in Parliament and affect the unity of the country. He called the move an “anti-national act” and said it could weaken federal fairness.

Rahul Gandhi also said that the opposition will strongly resist the Bill. He assured that opposition parties will work together to stop it and ensure it does not pass in Parliament. He said they will not allow any change that they believe could damage the country’s democratic structure.

Overall, his statement adds to the ongoing political debate in Parliament, where the Bill has become a major point of disagreement between the government and the opposition.
