Punjab Kings’ impressive winning streak in the Indian Premier League (IPL) came to an end on Tuesday after Rajasthan Royals defeated them by six wickets in a thrilling high-scoring match.
Punjab Kings posted a strong total of 222 runs, powered by a brilliant unbeaten knock from Marcus Stoinis, who scored 62 runs from just 22 balls. His explosive innings helped Punjab set what appeared to be a challenging target.
Despite Punjab’s strong batting performance, Rajasthan Royals successfully chased down the total with confidence.
Rajasthan’s chase was led by Donovan Ferreira, who played an outstanding unbeaten innings of 52 runs, and Shubham Dubey, who added a valuable 31 not out. Their crucial partnership in the final overs proved to be the turning point of the match.
Ferreira and Dubey attacked aggressively in the last six overs, putting pressure on Punjab’s bowlers and guiding Rajasthan to victory. Ferreira sealed the win in style by hitting a six to complete his half-century.
Punjab’s bowling attack struggled to contain Rajasthan’s batters. Fast bowlers Arshdeep Singh and Lockie Ferguson gave away important boundaries, which made the chase easier for the opposition.
Punjab’s spinners, Harpreet Brar and Yuzvendra Chahal, performed better and tried to control the game, but their efforts were not enough to stop Rajasthan’s strong finish.
After the match, Punjab captain Shreyas Iyer described the defeat as a valuable learning experience for the team.
Even with the loss, Punjab Kings remain at the top of the IPL points table with 13 points from eight matches. Rajasthan Royals, meanwhile, climbed to third place with 12 points, strengthening their playoff hopes.
