Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), April 27 (ANI): Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) secured a thrilling victory over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Super Over of their IPL 2026 match at Ekana Cricket Stadium on Sunday. Rinku Singh was the star with an innings that turned the tide for KKR.
Batting first, KKR managed to post a competitive total of 155 runs despite facing strong seam bowling from LSG. Mohsin Khan’s impressive five-wicket haul initially kept KKR in check, but Rinku Singh stepped up with an unbeaten 83 off 51 balls, including seven fours and five sixes, to push his team past the 150-run mark.
In the final over of KKR’s innings, Rinku targeted Digvesh Singh Rathi, hitting four consecutive sixes. This explosive finish helped KKR reach 155/7, setting a challenging target for LSG.
On JioHotstar’s ‘Google Search AI Mode Match Centre Live’, former India cricketer Irfan Pathan praised Rinku’s performance. He highlighted Rinku’s awareness and ability to read the bowler’s plans, adjust his position, and create scoring opportunities. Pathan noted that without those 26 runs in the final over, KKR would have lost.
The match saw LSG needing seven runs off the last ball for victory, but Mohammed Shami’s six forced the game into a Super Over. Earlier, Mohsin Khan’s five-wicket haul had rocked KKR’s top order, but Rinku Singh’s counterattack changed the momentum.
In reply, KKR’s bowlers kept LSG under pressure until Shami’s dramatic last-ball six pushed the contest to a nail-biting Super Over. Rinku was named Player of the Match for his remarkable innings.
Pathan also mentioned that the pitch had contributed to the low-scoring thriller, with its bounce and movement making batting difficult. He emphasized that Rinku’s crucial over against Digvesh Rathi was the turning point, shifting momentum in KKR’s favor and leading them to victory. (ANI)
