Rishabh Pant couldn’t play as a wicketkeeper on the third day of the second Test against Sri Lanka due to an injury. He hurt his shoulder during training and was hit on the wrist by a fast-moving ball from Lahiru Kumara on the first day, forcing him to leave the field. Despite this, he scored 63 runs on Day 2.
Surprisingly, Pant wasn’t on the field for India’s bowling on Day 3. He stayed in the dressing room with his hand wrapped, as his shoulder injury from batting on Day 2 was still affecting him. Dhruv Jurel took over as wicketkeeper.
India’s bowling coach, Morne Morkel, explained that Pant is “very bruised” and this has limited his movement. He shared that Pant’s condition was discussed the previous night and that they would monitor him closely to see if he could return to play on Day 4.
Meanwhile, during the rain break on Day 3, a funny moment involving Pant and a fan went viral. The fan joked with Pant in Hindi, saying, “Brother Rishabh, you’ll catch a cold because the water here is different.” Pant responded humorously, “Make sure I get a fever before you go—even if I don’t feel one, make it happen!”
Despite his injury, Pant seemed to be enjoying the rain break, showing his playful side.
