At least three people were killed in overnight drone attacks carried out by Russian forces in parts of eastern and southern Ukraine, officials said on Monday (February 9, 2026).

Among the victims were a mother and her 10-year-old son. They died when a drone struck a residential area in the town of Bohodukhiv in the Kharkiv region of eastern Ukraine.

According to the regional prosecutor’s office, the attack damaged several homes and buildings in the neighbourhood. Emergency teams rushed to the area after the strike to rescue people and assess the damage.

Officials said the mother and child were inside their house when the drone hit. Both died on the spot. Local authorities described the incident as tragic and said civilians continue to suffer because of the ongoing conflict.

In southern Ukraine, another person was also reported killed in separate drone strikes. Several others were injured, though exact numbers are still being confirmed.

Regional officials said Russia has been increasing its use of drones to target towns and cities, often hitting residential areas and civilian infrastructure. These attacks have caused fear among residents and forced many families to seek shelter during the night.

Ukrainian authorities condemned the strikes and said investigations are underway. They accused Russia of deliberately targeting civilian areas, which violates international law.

The war between Russia and Ukraine continues to cause heavy damage and loss of life, with civilians frequently caught in the crossfire.
