Sachin Tendulkar Remembers India’s 2011 World Cup Triumph

Legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar shared fond memories of India’s 2011 ODI World Cup victory. He recalled how the excitement began from the first ball and continued throughout the unforgettable night at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

On April 2, 2011, India defeated a strong Sri Lankan team, led by players like Zaheer Khan, Gautam Gambhir, and MS Dhoni. This win brought the World Cup title back to India after 28 years, following their previous victory in 1983 under Kapil Dev’s leadership.

Reflecting on the win 15 years later, Tendulkar mentioned how the team, who had grown up playing together, shared a common goal of winning the World Cup for India. He expressed gratitude to his teammates and fans for making the victory so special.

In an Instagram post, Tendulkar wrote: “The first ball always makes your heart race, and that night, it never stopped. 15 years later, it still stays with us… Thank you for sharing it with us and making it so special. Jai Hind.”

Tendulkar was India’s top scorer in the tournament, accumulating 482 runs across nine matches. In the final against Sri Lanka, India chased down a target of 274. After losing early wickets, Gautam Gambhir (97), Virat Kohli (35), MS Dhoni (91), and Yuvraj Singh (21) helped India secure a six-wicket win.

This victory remains a cherished moment in Indian cricket history, uniting the nation and creating unforgettable memories for fans worldwide.
