Saudi Arabia has transferred an Omani co-pilot to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) following an alleged attempt to take control of a Flydubai flight bound for Tel Aviv.
According to investigators, the incident reportedly took place inside the cockpit when the co-pilot attacked Indian pilot Smit Machchhar. The confrontation raised concerns over an attempted hijacking and the safety of passengers and crew onboard.
Authorities have since taken the Omani co-pilot into custody and transferred him to the UAE as investigations continue.
Investigators are now examining the circumstances surrounding the attack, including the co-pilot’s possible motives and what led to the alleged attempt to interfere with the aircraft’s operation.
The incident has raised fresh concerns about cockpit security and the measures required to prevent unauthorized interference with commercial flights. Authorities are expected to investigate the incident in detail before determining further legal action.
