Seychelles President Arrives in Delhi for Talks

Seychelles President Patrick Herminie arrived in New Delhi yesterday as part of the final leg of his five-day visit to India. Before coming to the national capital, he visited Chennai and Mumbai, where he held several meetings and discussions.

Union Minister Anupriya Patel welcomed the visiting President at the airport. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, President Herminie met important stakeholders in different sectors during his visits to Chennai and Mumbai. These included meetings related to governance, industry, coastal management, and healthcare.

Officials said the meetings were productive and aimed at strengthening cooperation between India and Seychelles in these key areas. Both countries are looking to expand partnerships in development, trade, and maritime activities.

The two leaders are expected to discuss a range of issues, including bilateral relations, regional matters, and global challenges of mutual interest. The discussions are likely to focus on improving economic ties, security cooperation, and development projects.

Seychelles is considered an important maritime neighbour of India in the Indian Ocean region. The island nation plays a key role in India’s regional strategy. It holds special importance in India’s Vision MAHASAGAR, which stands for Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions. This vision aims to promote security, stability, and development among countries in the region and support the interests of the Global South.

The visit is expected to further strengthen the friendly relationship and cooperation between India and Seychelles.
