Shubman Gill Injured, KL Rahul Steps Up

India captain Shubman Gill missed the first day of the warm-up match against the Sri Lanka Cricket XI after suffering a finger injury during a training session. The injury happened on Thursday while Gill was taking part in fielding practice before the match.

According to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the ball struck Gill’s ring finger, causing him immediate pain. As a safety measure, the team management decided not to risk his fitness, and he was rested for the opening day of the match. The BCCI medical team is closely monitoring his condition and will assess his recovery before making a decision on his return.

Gill’s absence is another setback for the Indian team, which is already dealing with injuries to key players Jasprit Bumrah and Washington Sundar. Both players are currently recovering and were unavailable for the warm-up game.

With Gill unavailable, vice-captain KL Rahul took charge of the team and led India in the match at the National Cricket Centre (NCC) in Colombo. Rahul’s experience provided stability as the team prepared for its upcoming international fixtures.

The BCCI has confirmed that Gill will not play on Day 1 of the warm-up match. However, the board has not announced how serious the injury is or whether he will be available for the remaining matches. His fitness will continue to be reviewed by the medical staff over the coming days.

Indian fans will be hoping that Gill recovers quickly, as he is one of the team’s most important batters and captain. The team management is expected to take a careful approach to ensure he returns only when he is fully fit.
