Smriti Mandhana Aims for More Indian Batters in Top Women’s Cricket Rankings

Dubai [UAE], September 4 (ANI): Smriti Mandhana, an Indian batter, has surpassed cricket legends Mithali Raj and Meg Lanning to become the leading run-getter and century-maker in women’s international cricket. She expressed her desire for three or four Indian batters to feature among the top five women cricketers with over 10,000 international runs.

Mandhana achieved this remarkable feat with an outstanding innings of 124 runs in just 64 balls against Hong Kong, helping India secure a place in the semifinals. During her video interview with BCCI, she emphasized that her primary focus is on winning matches for India rather than personal records. She believes having multiple Indian players in the top run-getters list would be a significant achievement.

Mandhana also shared her admiration for Mithali Raj, who has been a role model for many female cricketers. She never imagined surpassing her偶像 but acknowledged that this milestone is a positive step forward in her career.

Despite her impressive records and centuries, Mandhana remains committed to improving her game, particularly her ability to hit sixes. She believes there’s always room for improvement as a cricketer.

Currently, the top five run-scorers in women’s international cricket are Smriti Mandhana (10,880 runs), Mithali Raj (10,868 runs), Suzie Bates (10,740 runs), Charlotte Edwards (10,273 runs), and Stafanie Taylor (10,007 runs). Mandhana’s 124 against Hong Kong is the highest individual score in Women’s T20 Asia Cup history.

In the same match, India defeated Hong Kong by a massive margin. Mandhana’s stellar performance powered her team to 193/5, while Deepti Sharma and other Indian bowlers took key wickets to restrict Hong Kong to just 56 runs.
