Several districts in South Tamil Nadu are expected to receive heavy rainfall until November 8, making this year’s Deepavali a wet one. Weather experts have warned that strong winds and a large weather system are bringing continuous rainfall to different parts of the region.
According to the Regional Meteorological Centre, districts such as Theni, Dindigul, and Madurai are likely to experience heavy rain on November 5. The rainfall is expected to spread to other areas, including Thoothukudi and Sivaganga, by November 6.
Coastal districts are also expected to receive rain due to strong winds carrying moisture from the sea. These weather conditions could continue until November 8, affecting several parts of southern Tamil Nadu.
On Wednesday, many districts, including Salem, Ramanathapuram, and Thanjavur, received light to moderate rainfall. Weather experts have warned that heavy showers are likely to continue across southern and delta districts in the coming days.
Thanjavur and Tiruvarur are expected to receive particularly heavy rainfall by November 8. While some areas may experience only light showers during the week, coastal districts could see increased rainfall after November 8 as winds become stronger.
The rainy conditions are also expected to keep temperatures close to normal levels until Sunday, providing some relief from warmer weather.
Tamil Nadu has already recorded 11 per cent more rainfall than its average since October. Officials expect the continuing showers to increase the rainfall surplus further.
With rain expected across several districts, residents may need to plan their Deepavali celebrations carefully, particularly in areas likely to experience heavy showers.
