The death toll from several landslides in Sri Lanka’s Badulla District has
increased to 11. Media reports say seven people are still missing after heavy
rain caused landslides at seven different places in the district. Rescue teams
are continuing their search, but the ground is still unstable because of the
strong rainfall.
Officials also say that more small landslides have occurred in different parts
of Badulla, raising fears of more danger. The National Building Research
Organisation has issued Level-3 (red) evacuation warnings for areas at risk in
the Badulla, Kandy, Matale, and Nuwara Eliya districts.
