Sridhar Vembu Calls for Fresh Polls

Amid the ongoing political deadlock in Tamil Nadu after the Assembly elections, Zoho co-founder Sridhar Vembu has called for fresh elections in the state if a stable government cannot be formed.
Vembu said that any new election should include strict action against “cash for votes,” a practice that has long been criticized in Tamil Nadu politics.
He stressed that stronger enforcement is necessary to ensure fair and transparent elections in the future.
At the same time, Vembu expressed support for actor-politician Vijay and his party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) in their efforts to form the government.
His remarks come as political uncertainty continues to grow following the election results, which produced a hung Assembly with no party securing a full majority.
TVK emerged as the single largest party, but questions remain about whether it has enough support from other parties to prove a stable majority in the 234-member Assembly.
Reports suggest that Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar is still not fully convinced that TVK currently has the required numbers to form a stable administration.
This uncertainty has delayed the government formation process and intensified political debate across the state.
Vembu’s comments have added a new voice to the discussion, highlighting concerns about electoral practices while also supporting democratic clarity.
Political observers say his call for fresh elections reflects frustration over the prolonged uncertainty and the challenges of coalition politics.
As alliance talks continue, Tamil Nadu remains in a tense political phase, with the final outcome still unclear.
