Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin told the State Assembly on Thursday that Tamil Nadu ranks among the top states in ensuring safety for women and children. He said this statement is based on data released by the Union government itself.
Responding to remarks made by BJP Legislature Party leader Nainar Nagenthran, Stalin said the Centre’s official figures clearly show that Tamil Nadu performs better than many other states in maintaining law and order. He stressed that the data does not come from the state government, but from the Union government’s own reports.
The Chief Minister also criticised BJP-ruled states, claiming that their performance on safety indicators is not as strong. He said comparisons based on official statistics show that Tamil Nadu has a better record in handling crimes and protecting women and children.
Stalin highlighted several steps taken by his government to improve public safety. These include strengthening police infrastructure, increasing women police personnel, setting up special units to handle crimes against women and children, fast-tracking investigations, and improving emergency response systems. He said awareness campaigns and stricter monitoring have also helped reduce crime rates.
He added that the state government is committed to ensuring quick justice in sensitive cases and providing support services such as counselling and legal assistance to victims. According to him, maintaining strong law and order remains a top priority.
The discussion in the Assembly reflected political differences between the ruling DMK and the BJP, with both sides debating the state’s performance on governance and public safety.
