Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin strongly criticised the Union Budget 2026 on Sunday, calling it an “unprecedented disappointment” for the state. He accused the BJP-led Union government of completely ignoring Tamil Nadu’s needs and failing to provide adequate support or funds.
In a detailed statement, the DMK leader said the people of Tamil Nadu had expected the Centre to address the state’s concerns, especially as it prepares for the upcoming Assembly elections. However, he claimed that the Budget did not include any major announcements or special allocations that would directly benefit the state.
Stalin alleged that the Union government had once again neglected Tamil Nadu, despite the state’s significant contribution to the country’s economy through industries, exports, and tax revenues. He said the lack of new projects or financial assistance shows that the Centre is not giving due importance to the state.
He further added that several long-pending demands, including infrastructure projects, welfare support, and development funds, were not addressed in the Budget. According to him, this has disappointed the people and businesses that were hoping for more support.
The Chief Minister also claimed that the Centre’s approach reflects political bias, suggesting that Tamil Nadu is being overlooked because the BJP does not have strong electoral prospects in the state. He said the government should treat all states equally, regardless of political differences.
Stalin assured that his government would continue to fight for Tamil Nadu’s rights and demand fair treatment and a proper share of funds from the Centre. He said the state will keep raising its voice to ensure that its development is not affected.
Overall, the Chief Minister described the Union Budget as a missed opportunity to support Tamil Nadu’s growth and meet the expectations of its people.
