Stalin Urges Centre to Reconsider Metro Projects

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin wrote a detailed letter to
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday (November 22, 2025). In the
letter, he expressed sadness and disappointment that the proposals for
Metro Rail projects in Coimbatore and Madurai were rejected. He asked
the Prime Minister to tell the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs
(MoHUA) to review and reconsider the decision.

Mr. Stalin said that Tamil Nadu is the most urbanised State in India
and has a high number of private vehicles. Because of this, big and
fast-growing cities need strong public transport systems. He explained
that the government had prepared the Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for
Metro Rail in Coimbatore and Madurai and sent them to MoHUA for approval.
