Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Sunday (February 8, 2026) wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the progress of land acquisition for several railway projects in the State. He requested the Prime Minister’s help to speed up these projects and ensure that they are completed without further delay.
In the letter, Mr. Stalin asked the Centre to release funds on time for acquiring land. He also urged the government to restart railway projects that have been kept on hold for a long time. He said these projects are important for improving transport facilities and boosting development in Tamil Nadu.
The Chief Minister explained that he felt compelled to write the letter because some “factually incorrect information” was being circulated in the media. According to him, these reports wrongly suggested that the State government was delaying the land acquisition process.
He clarified that the Tamil Nadu government has already taken several steps to support the railway projects. Administrative approval has been given to acquire around 2,500 hectares of land for various railway works across the State. This shows that the State has done its part to move the projects forward.
However, he pointed out that the Railways have not yet released funds for acquiring about 931 hectares of this land. Without the required money from the Centre, the land acquisition process cannot be completed, which is slowing down the projects.
Mr. Stalin stressed that delays in funding are affecting the timely execution of important railway lines and infrastructure upgrades. He said these projects would improve connectivity, reduce travel time, and benefit both passengers and businesses.
He urged the Prime Minister to personally intervene and ensure quick release of funds and faster implementation of the pending railway projects for the benefit of the people of Tamil Nadu.
