Sudhakar Dalela has arrived in Kathmandu to take charge as India’s new Ambassador to Nepal. He was welcomed at the airport by officials from Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and representatives of the Indian Embassy.
Dalela brings several years of diplomatic experience to his new position. He joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1993 and has held important responsibilities in India’s diplomatic and foreign policy departments.
Before his appointment to Nepal, Dalela served as India’s Ambassador to Bhutan from 2022 to 2025. During this period, he worked to strengthen diplomatic relations and cooperation between India and Bhutan.
In September 2025, he took up the position of Secretary (Economic Relations) in India’s Ministry of External Affairs. In this role, he was involved in managing India’s economic relationships and international cooperation with other countries.
Dalela has also played an important role in managing India’s relations with Nepal and Bhutan. He previously worked as a senior official in the Northern Division of the Ministry of External Affairs, which handles important diplomatic matters related to these neighbouring countries.
His diplomatic career also includes experience in India’s Prime Minister’s Office and assignments in several countries, including the United States. These responsibilities have given him valuable experience in international relations and foreign policy.
Dalela is taking over from Naveen Srivastava, who recently completed his tenure as India’s Ambassador to Nepal.
His appointment comes at an important time for India-Nepal relations. Both countries share close historical, cultural, economic, and geographical ties. Dalela’s experience in diplomacy and regional affairs is expected to support continued cooperation between the two neighbouring nations.
