Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Titans Advance to IPL Playoffs

Sunrisers Hyderabad booked their place in the IPL 2026 playoffs after defeating Chennai Super Kings by five wickets at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Monday night. The important win also helped Gujarat Titans move closer to playoff qualification as the tournament enters its final stage.

Batting first, Chennai Super Kings managed to score 180 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their 20 overs. Dewald Brevis was the top scorer for CSK with a quick 44 runs and played some attacking shots to help his team reach a competitive total. However, the Sunrisers bowlers kept taking wickets at regular intervals and stopped Chennai from crossing the 200-run mark.

SRH captain Pat Cummins once again impressed with the ball and led the bowling attack strongly. Young pacer Sakib Hussain also bowled well as the pair combined to take five wickets during the innings. Their disciplined bowling made it difficult for Chennai’s middle order to build momentum.

In reply, Sunrisers Hyderabad chased down the target confidently in just 19 overs. Ishan Kishan played a brilliant innings of 70 runs and gave SRH a strong start. He attacked the bowlers from the beginning and kept the scoreboard moving quickly.

Heinrich Klaasen provided excellent support with 47 important runs. The pair built a strong partnership that put Sunrisers in control of the match. Even after losing a few wickets towards the end, SRH comfortably reached the target and celebrated an important victory.

With this result, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Titans now both have 16 points in the IPL standings. Royal Challengers Bangalore continue to stay at the top of the points table with strong performances this season.

The fight for the final playoff spot has now become more intense. Teams including Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals, Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals, and Kolkata Knight Riders are still in contention and will battle in the remaining matches.

Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants have officially been knocked out of the IPL 2026 playoff race after disappointing campaigns this season.
