Supreme Court Allows Punjab Kesari Presses to Run

The Supreme Court on Tuesday (January 20, 2026) gave relief to the Punjab Kesari newspaper group by allowing its printing presses to continue operating without interruption. The court’s order came despite a decision by the Punjab State Pollution Control Board to cut the power supply, citing alleged violations.

A bench led by Chief Justice Surya Kant took urgent note of the newspaper group’s plea. The group told the court that if power supply was stopped, the printing of some editions of the vernacular daily would be badly affected.

Considering the importance of uninterrupted publication, the Supreme Court directed that the printing presses should keep functioning while the matter is examined further. The order has ensured that the newspaper’s operations will not be disrupted for now.
