The Supreme Court of India on Wednesday (April 15, 2026) stopped an earlier order given by the Telangana High Court. The High Court had granted one-week transit anticipatory bail to Pawan Khera.
This case is related to a police complaint filed by Riniki Bhuyan Sharma, who is the wife of Himanta Biswa Sarma. She accused Pawan Khera of having multiple passports, which led to legal action.
A Bench of Justices J.K. Maheshwari and A.S. Chandurkar said they were surprised by the High Court’s decision. They explained that if Khera applies for anticipatory bail in Assam, where the case was originally filed, then stopping the earlier order would not cause him any harm.
The Supreme Court has also sent notices to Pawan Khera and other people involved in the case. They have been asked to respond to the request made by the Assam government, which is seeking to cancel the High Court’s order.
This development means the case will now be reviewed further, and the court will decide the next steps after hearing all sides.
