The Supreme Court on Monday (November 17, 2025) told the Uttarakhand government
that it must fix the environmental damage done to the Corbett Tiger Reserve.
The Court said that large-scale cutting of trees and building construction in
protected areas were done without permission and have harmed the forest.
The judges noted that Corbett is one of India’s most important wildlife reserves
and is home to many tigers, elephants, and other animals. They said that illegal
activities in such a sensitive area cannot be ignored.
The Court has asked the state to take steps to restore the damaged land,
plant new trees, and remove any buildings that were constructed illegally.
It also directed the government to ensure that similar violations do not
happen again and to strengthen monitoring inside the reserve.
The next hearing will check whether the state has taken proper action
to protect the environment and wildlife of Corbett.
