Tambaram is often called the gateway to Chennai because it connects the main city to many southern areas. Over the past few years, Tambaram has grown very quickly and has become one of the fastest-developing suburban regions on the southern side of the city. This growth is mainly due to rapid urbanisation, the construction of many new houses and apartments, and the rise of shops, offices, and other businesses.
As more people move to Tambaram, the population has increased a lot. The area has good road and rail connections, especially along the busy GST Road and suburban train routes, which makes it easy for people to travel to different parts of the city. Because of this, Tambaram has become an important urban center and is now managed under the Tambaram City Municipal Corporation.
However, along with this fast growth, several problems have also come up. One of the major issues is the lack of proper underground drainage systems in many areas. This leads to waterlogging and poor sanitation, especially during the rainy season. Solid waste management is another concern, as garbage collection and disposal are not always efficient, causing waste to pile up in some places.
Traffic congestion is also a serious problem, particularly on busy roads like GST Road. During peak hours, vehicles move very slowly, leading to long delays and frustration for commuters. In addition, pollution of nearby lakes, ponds, and other water bodies has become a growing issue due to improper waste disposal and sewage mixing with water sources.
Overall, while Tambaram is developing rapidly and becoming an important part of the city’s growth, there is a strong need to improve infrastructure and basic services to ensure a better quality of life for its residents.
