Various transport trade unions have welcomed the State government’s decision to pay long-pending pension and other retirement benefits to employees of the State Transport Undertakings (STUs).
In a government order issued on Wednesday, the state released ₹2,446.46 crore to settle pending terminal benefits such as provident fund, pension, gratuity, and leave salary commutation.
The payment will benefit 6,867 employees who retired, took voluntary retirement between August 2024 and March 2026, or passed away while in service across the eight STUs.
The move has been praised by unions as a major step toward fulfilling long-standing financial commitments, providing relief to retired employees and their families, and ensuring timely settlement of benefits in the future.
