The Greater Chennai City Police have filed charges against TVK leader C. Joseph Vijay and his party members for breaking election rules during a campaign event in Perambur. The incident caused public inconvenience.
A complaint was filed by V. Kumar, an officer from the Kolathur Assembly constituency’s Static Surveillance Team. On March 30, 2026, around 3,000 TVK members gathered on SRP Koil South Street near Peravallur Junction, blocking traffic and holding party flags. At 3:40 PM, Vijay arrived with more supporters, increasing the crowd to nearly 5,000. Loudspeakers were used extensively, disrupting public movement, including ambulances.
The police had permitted TVK to campaign between 5-6 PM with up to 500 participants and five sound systems. However, the gathering occurred earlier than allowed, with 30 loudspeakers and far more participants, violating guidelines. The complainant has requested legal action against those responsible.
Charges were filed under Sections 126(2), 189(2), and 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with provisions of the Tamil Nadu City Police Act.
