In badminton, Indian player Tanvi Sharma reached the semifinals of the
Syed Modi International tournament in Lucknow today. The 16-year-old beat
Sin Yan Happy Lo from Hong Kong 21-13, 21-19 in the quarterfinals. Earlier,
she caused a major surprise by defeating former world champion Nozomi Okuhara
in the second round.
After her, Unnati Hooda also made it to the semifinals by winning an all-Indian
quarterfinal against Rakshitha Ramraj in three games: 21-15, 13-21, 21-16.
In mixed doubles, the new Indian pair Treesa Jolly and Hariharan Amsakarunan
also reached the semifinals. They beat the Australian team of Andika Ramadiansyah
and Nozomi Shimizu in straight games, 21-18, 21-14, marking their first semi-final
on the tour.
