Telangana Assembly Winter Session Set for Stormy Debates

As the Telangana Legislative Assembly meets for its winter session on Monday, December 29, the political mood in the state is tense and expectant. Leaders from all parties are preparing for what is expected to be a stormy session, with several sensitive issues likely to be discussed.

The session will begin at 10.30 am on Monday and is expected to witness heated debates, especially on long-standing disputes related to water sharing, irrigation projects and alleged failures in governance. These issues have been a major point of disagreement between the ruling Congress and the opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).

Former chief minister and BRS chief K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) is likely to take part actively in the Assembly proceedings. If he does, it will be his first major appearance in the House since the BRS lost power in the 2023 Assembly elections. His return is expected to add intensity to the debates.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has openly challenged KCR to debate key issues, especially those linked to irrigation and water management. He has said the Assembly session could “raise the temperature” in state politics. Political observers believe the winter session will be an important test for both the ruling party and the opposition, as Telangana moves towards future elections, including the Assembly polls scheduled for 2028.
