The Telangana Cabinet has announced several major decisions to improve employee welfare, healthcare services, infrastructure, and public transport in the state.
The Cabinet meeting was chaired by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. One of the key decisions was to provide accident insurance coverage for all government employees and pensioners. This is the first time such a scheme has been introduced in the state. The move is aimed at giving financial security and support to employees and their families in case of unexpected accidents.
The Cabinet also approved a long-pending cashless health scheme for government staff and pensioners. This scheme will allow them to receive medical treatment at selected hospitals without paying money upfront. The government will settle the hospital bills directly.
In a major infrastructure decision, the Cabinet gave approval for the state government to take over the 69-km Hyderabad Metro. The move is expected to improve management, expand services, and speed up future metro projects in and around the city.
The Cabinet also sanctioned significant funds for development projects across the state. These include improvements to roads, expansion of water supply systems, strengthening of educational institutions, construction of housing units, and development of logistics hubs to support trade and industry.
After the meeting, a group of ministers — Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy, Adluri Laxman Kumar, and Vakiti Srihari — briefed reporters about the decisions taken. The Cabinet meeting, held on Monday, February 23, lasted for more than five hours and continued late into the night.
In addition, the Cabinet decided to convene the Budget Session of the Telangana Legislative Assembly on March 16.
Officials said these decisions aim to improve governance, support government employees, boost public services, and accelerate development across Telangana.
