Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka has asked the Central government to help protect the state’s rights over Krishna River water. He raised the issue during the 31st Southern Zonal Council meeting, where several important matters related to southern states were discussed.
Vikramarka said Telangana needs strong support from the Centre to protect its share of Krishna River water. The river is an important source of water for drinking, farming and irrigation in the state.
He also called for a quick solution to the long-running water disputes between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. According to him, these issues should be settled through legal and constitutional procedures without unnecessary delays.
The Deputy Chief Minister stressed that farmers in Telangana depend heavily on irrigation projects for agriculture. Delays in resolving water-related disputes can affect the availability of water for farming and create difficulties for farmers.
Vikramarka also requested the Central government to support important irrigation projects in Telangana. He said faster approval and implementation of these projects would help improve irrigation facilities and provide better water security to farming communities.
The Krishna River has been at the centre of several water-sharing disputes between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Both states depend on the river for agriculture, drinking water and other development needs.
Telangana has been seeking greater clarity and protection for its share of the river water. The state government has maintained that its water requirements should be properly considered while decisions are taken on the use and distribution of Krishna water.
Vikramarka said the Central government has an important role in helping the states resolve such disputes. He called for faster action so that irrigation projects can move forward without long administrative or legal delays.
The Deputy Chief Minister also highlighted the importance of completing irrigation schemes on time. Better irrigation facilities can help farmers increase agricultural production and reduce their dependence on rainfall.
For Telangana, ensuring a reliable supply of water is also important for the long-term development of rural areas. Water availability can support farming, improve farmers’ incomes and strengthen the state’s food production.
The Southern Zonal Council meeting provided an opportunity for Telangana to raise these concerns at the national level. The state is now seeking continued cooperation from the Centre to protect its water interests and speed up the development of irrigation projects.
The government hopes that faster legal action and cooperation between the concerned authorities will help reduce disputes between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. It also wants irrigation projects to be completed quickly so that farmers can receive the benefits of better water facilities.
