U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Monday that talks with Iran will take place today but did not set a deadline for an agreement. Earlier, he had stated that he called off plans for an imminent strike in hopes of quickly reaching a deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and address Tehran’s nuclear capabilities.
On Saturday evening, Trump shared on his Truth Social platform that Iran and other West Asian countries had requested more time to finalize a deal that would lead to the immediate reopening of the strait and end Iran’s nuclear threat. He emphasized that Tehran must act quickly to reach an agreement.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held phone calls with Saudi Arabia’s Prince Faisal bin Farhan and Pakistan’s army chief Asim Munir on Sunday to discuss diplomatic efforts, according to Iranian state media. Earlier reports from IRNA indicated that negotiations between Iran and Oman over the Strait of Hormuz were nearing completion, citing statements from Foreign Minister Araghchi.
