US President Donald Trump said the United States will keep control of
Venezuelan oil that was seized, showing a firm approach toward Venezuela.
Speaking at a press conference at Mar-a-Lago, Trump said the oil will not be
returned for now and could be sold, stored, or added to the US strategic reserves,
although no final decision has been made.
Trump also said the US is talking with major American oil companies about
Venezuela’s energy sector, but he did not give details about future plans.
He said this step is meant to maintain pressure and accountability as part
of ongoing US sanctions on Venezuela’s oil industry, which are aimed at addressing
alleged mismanagement and corruption by the Venezuelan government.
