Trump Pauses Hormuz Mission for Iran Deal

U.S. President Donald Trump has decided to stop “Project Freedom,” a military operation created to protect ships traveling through the Strait of Hormuz, as diplomatic talks with Iran appear to be making progress.

Trump announced the decision through a post on Truth Social, where he said the United States had made “great progress” toward reaching a complete and final agreement with Iran.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important shipping routes, especially for oil transport. Because of its strategic importance, tensions in the region have raised global concerns over trade, energy supplies, and security.

“Project Freedom” was introduced to safeguard commercial and civilian vessels moving through the strait after increasing military tensions between the United States and Iran.

Recent clashes had significantly escalated the conflict. U.S. officials claimed that American forces had destroyed seven Iranian boats during military actions in the area. There were also reports that civilian ships had come under attack, with Iran being accused of involvement.

On May 6, 2026, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed that the United States had completed its offensive military campaign against Iran, known as “Operation Epic Fury.”

The decision to halt “Project Freedom” suggests that the Trump administration may now be prioritizing diplomacy over direct military action.

Observers believe this move is intended to reduce immediate tensions and create room for negotiations between Washington and Tehran.

While the situation remains fragile, Trump’s statement indicates optimism that both countries could be moving closer to a peaceful resolution.

Global leaders and financial markets are closely monitoring developments, as stability in the Strait of Hormuz is crucial for international trade and global oil prices.
