Trump Promises $5,000 for Americans if Republicans Win Congress

U.S. President Donald Trump announced on September 10, 2026, that every American adult would receive $5,000 if Republicans win control of Congress in the upcoming November elections. Speaking at the Republican midterm convention in Dallas, Trump linked this promise to a request for supporters to “pretend” he was still on the ballot.

“If Republicans win, you win with us and get $5,000,” Trump said. He called this amount the “Trump dividend.” However, he did not explain where the money would come from, as it could cost over $1 trillion. Instead, he simply stated that the country is generating a lot of revenue.

Despite polls showing low approval ratings for Trump due to rising prices and his ongoing conflict with Iran, he remained confident Republicans would retain control of Congress in November. Polls predict Democrats will win the House 230-205 and the Senate 51-49.

At the convention, there was little sign of Republican worry about the election outcome. The event included a video message from Democratic Senator John Fetterman, who has had disagreements with his party’s left wing over issues like Israel.

Republicans focused on tax cuts, immigration enforcement, and achievements such as lower prescription drug prices and increased manufacturing. The convention venue was filled with Trump memorabilia, including sequined jackets and merchandise promoting his family members’ products.

Although facing tough political challenges, the mood at the convention remained upbeat. Attendees chanted “USA! USA!” during the event, which felt more like a campaign rally than a typical midterm gathering. Over 100 House members and candidates were expected to attend, with numerous speakers planned each night.

The two-night event aimed to highlight Trump’s record and support Republican candidates without formally nominating anyone or conducting official party business.
